Welcome to Episode 44.
This week on ICONIC I talk to Edel Rodriguez, freelance Illustrator and Art director for Time. We start out the conversation talking about his background, life as an illustrator and his career over at TIME Magazine and many other great topics on this episode of ICONIC. ICONIC is now on! Enjoy!
Introduction: Edel Rodriguez’s work has been published regularly in TIME, The New Yorker magazine, and the New York Times Op-Ed page. He has created posters for Broadway shows, stamps for the U.S. Postal Service, and has worked for a wide range of editorial, book, and advertising clients, including Nike, Pepsi, Hyperion Books, Rolling Stone, Esquire, and Playboy Magazine. Articles about his work have been published in several design publications including Print and Communication Arts. His work has been regularly accepted into the American Illustration, Society of Illustrators, and CA illustration annuals. He has illustrated several children's books and is currently writing and illustrating two books for Little, Brown, and Co.
Edel has been an art director at TIME magazine for the past twelve years where he has had the opportunity to work with most of the top illustrators in the field. He has art directed hundreds of covers for the Canadian and Latin American editions of TIME and has recently become an Associate Art Director for the U.S. edition of the magazine. He has also spoken at many universities and has been selected to serve on judging panels for various competitions.
Edel was born in Havana, Cuba in 1971. He studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and Hunter College in Manhattan. He now lives with his family in New Jersey.
