Influences/Inspiration
Huge role models and influences have been the Sixties poster art of Martin Sharp, the beautiful illustration work of Milton Glasser, the pop art of Peter Blake and the whacky surrealism of Terry Gilliam. I grew up on the clear lines of Herges Tin Tin and this has lead to a massive love of comics. The work of Dan Clowes, in particular was a great eye opener for me. Miyazaki is a big influence. The sense of wide-eyed surreal beauty he brings to his work is like no other animator out there. His black and white manga, Nausicaa has to be seen to be believed. Exquisite black and white work. I spent a year with a Gil Evgren calendar on my desk and that has definitely influenced a recent batch of pinups. They have a great sense of innocence and sweet sex appeal. Shane Glines is a modern Pin Up master. Lovely sense of design and simplicity. Lately I've been reading lots of Ed Goreys strange stories. Fantastic sinister characters and amazing pen-work. More recently I've become more and more obsessed with Victoriana so my shelves have become stacked with books and photos of the time. Images of Isembard Kingdom Brunel standing in front of some massive ship thrills me in some very odd ways!

Steve Scott was born in Plymouth, England before moving to Australia at
the age of 16. He studied Fine Arts in Sydney at the New South Wales
University before stints at Disney, Animal Logic, art directing
magazines and T-Shirt design. At the same time he became involved in
the early 90s Australian comic scene and then later a member of Sydney
electronic music collective, Clan Analogue. As one third of electronic
outfit, The Telemetry Orchestra he released three records.
In the late 90s he quit full time work to concentrate on Illustration
and Animation.
Steve's work was featured in the 2007 Sydney Powerhouse Museum
exhibition, 'In Your Face: Contemporary Graphic Design', the One Dot
Zero annual festival of the moving image at the ICA in London and most
recently the Pictoplasma Character Design Festival in Berlin. His
characters have also been published in the latest Pictoplasma book.
His work has an obsession with Psychedelic Victorian gentlemen,
invariably puffing on elaborate pipes, pop art dandies, giant robots
and fifties inspired burlesque pin ups.
In 2004 Steven moved to London where he lives in leafy Muswell Hill.
Clients have included Led Zeppelin, Nokia, Volvo, Channel 4,
Nickelodeon, Sony and The Australian Financial Times.
