Influences/Inspiration
My partner in life and art, Renata Liwska! My students and all the amazing young talent seemingly everywhere. Mentors, in particular, The Rick Sealock. Children's books, especially European, I can't read them but I love looking at the pictures.
Best Things In Life
Early morning, sketching at the coffee shop across the street while watching all the business people stumble to work. Morning, get some work done myself. Afternoon, avoid paperwork by going out to draw at the tea shop. Early evening, go to the north office (pub) for a pint with the boys. Evening, get to bed early so I can do it all over again. An even better day would be doing all of this while traveling in Europe or some such.
Children's Books
Little Panda By Renata Liwska (of course), Lucky Monkey, Unlucky Monkey by James Kaczman, The Wall by Peter Sis, Elementarz by M. Falski, Around the world with Mouk by Marc Boutavant (I haven't read it yet but I know I am going to love it!)

Based in Calgary, Canada, Mike Kerr has been happily illustrating for well over a dozen years. His work is constantly evolving which has kept illustration both fun and challenging, and has given him the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients.
The vast majority of Mike's work is done in his sketchbook, often at favorite coffee shops.
He has organized his work to allow him to complete most of the creative process, from thumbnails to finished illustration, entirely in his sketchbook.
He works alongside his illustrator wife, Renata Liwska. It is a very collaborative relationship and they often work together on their individual projects. Bouncing off ideas, lifting them higher and farther.
When not illustrating, Mike is a sessional instructor at the Alberta College of Art and Design where he teaches illustration and character design, and where the students teach him about what's cool and new (among many other things). He is also a former graduate of ACAD.
For the last few years Mike has been involved in a variety of shows and projects with Janine Vangool and Uppercase (www.uppercasegallery.ca) including the most recent project, a book and exhibit titled "Work/Life".
