Silvia Dekker grew up in a small village in the middle of the Dutch flower district.
After receiving a BA in Conceptual art and design at the Royal academy of art in The Hague in 1997 she studied Fashion and textile design, for which she received her BA in 2000. For her graduation show she designed 4 surface pattern collections for children's rooms.
Silvia started working as a freelance illustrator and surface pattern designer in 2001. She now lives in the old city centre of Leiden, (the city where Rembrandt was born) with her partner and 3 year old son Felix.
Her main client is Dutch department store Hema which has over 500 stores in Europe. Silvia started working for Hema designing patterns for their baby- and children's wear collections. Now each year she also designs postcards, homewares, duvet covers, back to school stationery, toys, and Christmas cards for Hema.
Other clients she has worked for include Oilily ladies and children's wear, Name it children's wear (Denmark), Mudpie trendbooks (UK), and O'Neill Europe sportswear. As a recent project she has designed a 144 square yard pattern for the Comme des Garçons pavillion at the Arnhem Mode Biënnale.
