Influences/Inspiration

Everything I have experience and everyone I have ever met in my life (regardless of actually or conceptually). For example, I had a terrible boss at the end of my former career. As much as I never want to see him again, I also thank him for giving me a chance and courage to choose a path that makes me happy rather than a stable job that made me miserable.

Best Things In Life

That I am surrounded by awesome-est people and that I meet new awesome people like every day.
That I would never run out of places I have never been that I can put on the list of "next travel destination".
That after all these years, I am still passionate about drawing and creating.
That there are amazing food in the world that makes me and my friends happy and excited.
That future is always unknown and therefore there are unlimited possibilities to create my own.

Ever since she was a child, drawing has always been Yuko's hobby, but growing up in a rather old fashioned Japanese family, she actually majored in advertising and marketing in a university in Tokyo and ended up working in Japanese corporate world doing PR for 11 years. After a very early mid-life crisis, she decided to pack up and move to New York to finally pursue her childhood dream to be an artist. She finished her MFA in Illustration from School of Visual Arts in 2003 and started her late illustration career.

Since then, Yuko has worked on numerous projects such as billboards for VISA, T-shirts for The Gap, can design for Pepsi, creating series of comic book covers for DC Vertigo, collaborating on charity mural with her hero Stefan Sagmeister, as well as working with various publications including TIME, The New York Times, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone and Playboy. She also teaches illustration at School of Visual Arts to the next generation of illustrators.

Her work has received numerous awards including gold and silver medals from the Society of Illustrators, silver medals from Spectrum Fantastic Art, and Yellow Pencil Award from D&AD. Newsweek Japan has recently chosen Yuko as one of "100 Japanese People The World Respects".
