Christian Montenegro is an Argentine illustrator, was born in Buenos Aires in 1972.
His entrée was through comics: he attended Alberto Breccia's atelier
for five years. This first step in his preparation enabled him to develop a
style which drew from German Expressionism.
After a first try to make a living by means of illustration, he started the
Graphic Design career at Buenos Aires University.
It was during his college years that he learnt and worked out an analytic
way of thinking illustration.
From the study of the 1920's Avant-garde' work, particularly Paul Klee's, he
came up with an idea of illustration as an "abstraction meaning
something".
With this in mind, he set off to work on the computer and developed a style
that owed as much to his experience, comics and graphic design as to
expressionism and constructivism.
In 2004, Die Gestalten published his book 'The Creation Pictures from the
Genesis book', by which he made his work known outside Argentina.
He has worked with the English agency Dutch Uncle since 2005.
His clients include Wired, VW, Vodafone, The Guardian, Swatch and BBDO,
among others.
