Welcome to Episode 39a.
In this four part series on ICONIC I will be talking to online "illustration" businesses. The first one being, Thumbtack Press. I had pleasure to talk with the founder of Thumbtack press, Tony Bailey. We started out the conversation talking about his background, what led him to start Thumbtack, and many other great topics on this episode of ICONIC. So grab the notebook kids! ICONIC is now on!
Introduction: Tony Bailey has been an illustrator, designer, creative type his whole life, and has been doing it exclusively for about a decade now. His personal studio - BaileyCreative - is an award-winning illustration, flash animation, design, and web studio.
Last year Tony noticed that illustration and gallery work were were becoming increasingly one and the same, yet there was no easy way to get this 'new' style to potential buyers unless they had hundreds - and even thousands - of dollars to spend. So in the Fall of 2005 he launched Thumbtack Press which offers gallery-quality prints by illustrators for illustration fans.
The website - Thumbtack Press dot com - allows talented illustrators to upload work for consideration, and while Tony rejects a lot of artist submissions he emphasizes that it's not personal, In his words "I simply choose what I like".
Basically, Tony's job requires him to look at killer art and send checks to talented illustrators, that's it.
Tony recently relocated to the Bay Area with his wife and son.
