I found out about Calef from the illustration he did for the San Francisco fall festival at the Ferry Building (upcoming end of October 2009). From a postcard of the illustration, I went to his website and was especially taken with "Weatherbee's Diner" and a couple illustrations about big banks taking small banks down with them. I'm not sure you have to have kids or grandkids to appreciate Calef's work--it's joyful and playful in a way that helps the spirit of an adult. Thank you, Calef, for sharing your creativity--keep it coming!

Love Calef's work! Does he work in gouache or acrylics? And it looks like his paintings are small, maybe only 8 x 10?

Dear Nate and Calef, thanks for this inspiring interview! Very fun poetry, like it a lot =)

Calef, you mention that when you started out looking for book publishers, you initially went about it the wrong way. What, in your opinion, is the right way? What would you recommend to artists who would like to get into book publishing?

Thanks!
Astrid
