Support the Mail Me Art project!

Mail Me Art: Medium Without a Message is the follow-up to the successful 2008 Mail Me Art: Going Postal. We are proud to announce we have over 700 new pieces of mail art. Medium Without a Message is an amazing collection of envelopes and boxes from around the world decorated by some of today’s most talented illustrators and artists. What makes the work special is that every single piece of art was sent through the postal system, exposed and on view as regular mail. At the end of this month all of the work will be on display at the London Mail Me Art exhibition.

How can you help support the project and become part of it? Well… The running costs for the project are currently at around £6000($9120). We’re hoping to recoup most of that by selling the new book and we’re also hoping to make the artists lots of money by selling their work at the exhibition! We’ve just finished the book and we got as many of the mail artists into the book as possible in some way or another! So please help us recoup some of the costs by making a pledge and supporting the project! In return for a pledge we’re sending people copies of the new book. We’ve also got some really cool artwork up for grabs from the likes of Dan May & Jon Burgerman! Please check out the site for more details – http://mailmeart.com/going-postal/pledge/

ICON6 – The Illustration Conference – LA July 2010

So, among many of the hats I wear in the illustration field, I’m the vice president of ICON6, which is the only creative conference in the US that focuses exclusively on ILLUSTRATION.

It’s been 2 years of a lot of work to plan an unforgettable event people leave with A LOT from, making it worth their money, energy and time.

Now, we’re almost there, merely 2 weeks away, and I can say with certainty that we, the board, have proudly achieved our goal: This is the best ICON ever, packed with art directors and art buyers, illustration stars, educators and a couple of networking events (full disclosure: I’m the events chair too) that will make sure you don’t remember what you did last night.

The conference rate is about to go up, so hurry! If you’re wondering if it’s worth it, I can assure you won’t regret it- and I’m supposed to be the queen of networking and self-promotion.

Speakers include The New York Times, creatives from the illustrated United ad campaign, Christoph Niemann, DreamWorks, Yuko Shimizu, Random House, Tim Biskup, Wired, Taschen and Bil Donovan among others.

Solo Show In Buenos Aires

A couple of years ago I worked on a personal series called War of Words, which focused on 10 universal, modern arguments: Love, politics, sports, protests, customer service, friendship, parenthood, childhood, religion, and self. I thought it would be exhibited back then, either in New York or Buenos Aires, where I have most of my connections, but I didn’t have time to shop it around the fine arts world, and nothing ever happened beyond getting a few silver medals and some good print exposure- no complaints.
Last year, when I was opening a solo exhibit at the Centro Cultural Borges in Buenos Aires, finally a real gallerist, Fernando Entin from Elsi del Rio, approached me. My dream had come true: I would finally be represented by a reputable gallery back home.

He had been following my career for quite a few years, he said, and he loved my work. He wanted to give me a solo show next year, 2010, while Arte BA was taking place, which is the equivalent to the Armory Show in New York or Art Basel in Miami, and the best time to have work up.

So here I am, exhibiting something I created a few years back- but I still feel proud of- with only 2 additional pieces I did for this show replacing the Love War, which is owned by the Society of Illustrators of New York, and the Self War, which is the punch line of the show and I felt deserved to be in Spanish. Here is that one:

Those of you who’re in Buenos AIres, I hope you can make it!

Opening: Monday, May 3rd, 7-10 PM (thru July 3rd, 2010)

Where: Elsi del Rio, Humbolt 1510 (@ Gorriti) – Palermo Hollywood

Sue Coe at SI

I’ll be moderating Sue Coe’s lecture at the SI this Wednesday. As I’m sure EVERYONE knows here, she’s a brilliant mind in our field and I can’t wait to meet her in person and hear what she has to say.
Hope you can make it!
