I’m often asked, “Were there any female illustrators during the mid-century period?” Of course. But most migrated to the gentler lands of storybook art… or the animation industry. Only a handful could hold their own in New York’s “Madmen”-esque boys’ club art studios that competed for high profile assignments from the magazine and advertising industries.

One of those rare creatures was Dorothy Monet, who has been described by someone who knew her as “Gorgeous. And petite. Intelligent. Literate. Adventuresome. And quite the actress, innately.”
